One is slightly taller than the other. Stock size is 255/45/20 and a 285/40/20 which are actually the exact same height/size.

With a COLD engine, unscrew the radiator cap and see if there is any brownish or other colored sludge looking deposits. Check in the bottom of the coolant res too. .
